Hummer H2With the iconic, gargantuan, military-based H1 excised from its line-up, Hummer soldiers on (so to speak) with the massive H2 tasked to march the brand forward.The new engine in the H2 SUV is the same 6.2-liter, all-aluminum V-8 that's used in the various Cadillac Escalades, GMC's Yukon Denali SUVs and the Sierra Denali pickup truck. And it's backed by the same outstanding, six-speed automatic transmission used in those vehicles. The H2 is rated at 393 hp and - make no mistake - this is easily one of the best engine-transmission combinations GM has ever bolted into a truck. The engine is smooth and powerful and sings with a wonderfully throaty exhaust baritone, while the transmission operates almost invisibly. Further, there's a shifting trigger behind the left side of the steering wheel that allows manual up shifts and down shifts. The H2 is big enough so that the EPA doesn't bother publishing fuel economy figures for it - yet. It's always been kind of a chore to pull one's self up into the H2's cockpit. Now at least there's finally a reason to put forth the effort.
